On behalf of the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake, we unequivocally condemn the heinous act carried out against innocent Muslims while worshiping in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Hatred has no religion. Such atrocities should be a call to action for all peace-loving people that it is our responsibility to speak up against violence and bigotry in all its forms. We must collectively continue the dialogue to actively explore the root causes and solutions for this problem of intolerance and foster a more integrated, benevolent society. We urge politicians to represent our unified voice, and the judiciary and security apparatus to drive appropriate actions against this social issue.
Ali ibn Talib (RA), a seventh-century Muslim Caliph, directed a newly appointed Governor with this advice: “Let me remind you that your subjects are either your brothers and sisters in faith or your equals in humanity.”
We join in prayer for the healing of this pain and suffering in our hearts.
President, Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake
