Assalamu Alaikum!
During daylight saving time, we hold two Jumu’ahs (Friday prayers), at 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM, to ease pressure on parking and prayer space. However, attendance at the 2:30 PM prayer has been low at both masjids, for a few reasons:
2:30 PM is late in the workday for many working professionals
The two prayers are close together, so traffic and parking get congested in between
There is little time for the English talk
Now that daylight saving time has ended, we also have a new problem. For those who follow the Shafi’i, Maliki, or Hanbali calculation, Asr comes in as early as 2:42 PM in the winter, which leaves too little time for a 2:30 prayer.
Alhumdulilah, the good news is that since daylight saving time does not start again until Sunday, March 14, 2027, this gives us a unique opportunity to perform an early Jumu’ah (Friday prayer) at 12:30 PM. This earlier time has several benefits:
It is closer to lunchtime, so working professionals can attend more easily
It leaves more time between prayers for traffic and parking to clear
It allows more time for a short English talk
As always, the Azan and prayer will only be after Dhuhr comes in. During this time of year, Dhuhr comes in at or before 12:45 PM.
The 1:30 PM Jumu’ah stays the same.
Please see the image below for a visualization.
Please try to attend the 12:30 Jumu’ah. Every person who comes at 12:30 eases parking and prayer space for the 1:30 prayer. JazakAllah khair.
