Community Safety Alert & Security Presence at Masajid (2/24/26)

Assalamu Alaikum.

We want to inform you of an incident that occurred yesterday evening involving our neighbors at the Utah Islamic Center. Imam Shuaib was followed from his home and shots were fired at him around 7:30 PM. Alhamdulillah, by Allah SWT's mercy alone, he was not harmed.

Law enforcement is conducting a full investigation, and we are in contact with local authorities and members of the UIC leadership.

May Allah SWT continue to protect Imam Shuaib and his family. Ameen.

Safety Measures at ISGSL:

Alhumdulillah, we received confirmation that Salt Lake City Police Department and West Valley Police Department will be present at Masjid Al-Noor and Khadeeja Islamic Center, respectively, tonight and for the next several nights.

SLCPD has informed us that they are planning to include other SLC masajid such as Madina Masjid and Maryam Masjid (Islamic Society of Bosniaks).

We are grateful to the authorities and will continue to work on arranging security presence for the remainder of Ramadan, including during Friday prayers.

We Ask Our Community To:

• Remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings when coming to and from the masjid

• Report any suspicious activity immediately to the police by calling 911

• Avoid speculation and rumors, allow the investigation to proceed

• Make dua for Imam Shuaib and his family, the UIC community, and Muslims all over

If you observe anything unusual, please immediately call 911 and then reach out to ISGSL management.

We remain united as a community during this blessed month of Ramadan.
