Job Description: Chairperson of the Finance Committee

Position Summary
The Chairperson of the Finance Committee provides executive fiscal leadership for ISGSL. This individual serves as a vital member of a 9-member Executive Committee (EC), working alongside a team characterized by sincerity, transparency, and a supportive collaborative culture. The Chair is responsible for the Society’s financial integrity and strategic growth while supervising paid staff and fostering a consensus-based approach to organizational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Governance
Collaborative Decision-Making: Act as one of the 9 members of the Executive Committee, contributing to a culture of consensus-building and transparent conduct.
Management Participation: Attend monthly EC/Board meetings (1–2 hours) to present financial updates and participate in broader ISGSL management decisions.
Staff Supervision: Direct and mentor the Accounts Person and the Bookkeeper Intern, ensuring their work aligns with best practices and organizational goals.
Financial Strategy & Oversight
Accounting Standards: Provide high-level oversight of QuickBooks (or similar financial software) entries and financial records managed by the paid staff.
Budget & Operations: Lead the development of the Overall Budget and oversee management of Utilities and Insurance.
Financial Sustainability: Oversee Donation Management, Endowment and Trust funds, and spearhead Grant Writing and Fundraising initiatives.
Compliance: Ensure the timely execution of Tax Filings and coordinate regular Audits.
Commitment & Culture
Estimated Weekly Commitment: Approximately 4–7 hours per week.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.

Qualifications
Strong professional background in finance, accounting, or business leadership.
Experience managing staff or leading teams.
Proficiency in QuickBooks and non-profit financial oversight.
